Cover Version

June 28th, 2008 - August 9th, 2008

"I suggest that the only books that influence us are those for which we are ready, and which have gone a little farther down a particular path than we have yet go ourselves." - E.M. Forster. Taylor De Cordoba is pleased to present Cover Version, a group exhibition curated by NY-based artist Timothy Hull. Hull has asked approximately twenty artists from around the country to create their own version of the cover of their favorite book. The only parameters are that the piece must be average books size and include the title and author in the composition. Artists include Michael Billsborough, Kadar Brock, Jennifer Sullivan, Ryan Callis and Frohawk Two Feathers.

MARK MANN

Last Resort

April 21st, 2007 - May 19th, 2007

Taylor De Cordoba is pleased to present "Last Resort," the limited edition portfolio published by Laurence Miller Gallery (New York) in 2006. The portfolio consists of twelve digital images, which Mann created between 2000 and 2005. The twelve selected photographs exemplify the artist's ability to transform the mundane into something fascinating. Basing his images on Wish You Were Here postcards from the 1960s, Mann digitally alters the source material. The result is a disturbing conflation of creepiness and familiarity.

SASHA BEZZUBOV

Things Fall Apart

January 29th, 2007 - February 14th, 2007

Things Fall Apart consists of five disasters - India after an earthquake, the Midwest after tornadoes, California after wildfires, Florida after hurricanes and Indonesia and Thailand after the tsunami. Arriving at each event after the fact allows the artist to witness the destruction with a degree of distance. Using the form of landscape photography, a tradition born with industrial expansion, these photographs evidence nature's force as it reclaims land subdued and ruled by a myopic civilization.
